Department of Performing Arts

The Department of Performing Arts, recently founded in 2009, is recognized as one of the premier training programs (Master of Fine Arts) in Korea, both for the quality of its faculty and its remarkable curriculum. Our goal is to educate professional actors and staff through intensive and advanced educational programs. The department has the best faculty members who are well known at the performance area and many excellent lecturers who are currently working at their field. It has an outstanding and varied cooperation system in conjunction with the theatre department of the undergraduate school, which has the longest history and tradition in Korea. In October 2008, we used about 2 million dollars to remodel the Dongguk Theatre and renamed it the 'Lee Hae Rang Yea Sool Theatre'. We are using the theatre for the purpose of the education and as a performance business, which is intended to create profits. We also established a university enterprise, 'Dongguk Art Company' in order to study, develop, and commercialize theatre and musical theatre contents. This case is unique among Korean universities.
