The globalization of world markets has opened up local markets, and the legal market is no exception. With accelerated economic growth and an increase in international exchanges, demand has been growing for diverse and specialized legal services in Korea, which is highly dependent on foreign trade. The need for legal services in global markets has been rising rapidly due to familiarization with the law and the international craze for Korean pop culture, or hallyu.
In March 2009, the Graduate School of Legal Affairs opened at Dongguk University. It is dedicated to developing specialists who are up to the global standard in competitiveness and comprehensive problem-solving skills for legal disputes. Using the superior educational infrastructure of Dongguk University, the new school will provide a practical education which will enable graduates to meet societal demands by applying their knowledge to the legal market. Department of American Legal Studies : Major of American Legal Studies
The program in American Legal Studies includes thirty professors from the College of Law as well as professors and adjunct professors from law schools in the United States. The aim is to enhance students' understanding of international law standards which are commonly applicable to global markets. It is meant to meet the rising demand for international trade specialists due to the opening of the legal market. It will provide an introduction to U.S. law and focus mainly on preparation for the U.S. bar examination, which students can take after completing the LLM program at U.S. law schools in accordance with our link programs.
